Laravel Passport: Separate Authorization server and ressource server

I would like to use Laravel Passport as an authorization server that hosts a user database and provides tokens after authenticating users which can then be used to access an API on an external ruby on rails server. However, the Passport documentation does not specify how to perform token validation externally. It seems very odd to me that this is not documented, as OAuth considers resource sever and authorization server as separate entities, however all guides and documentation from Passport suggest that both resource and authorization server are the same entities. Any hints on this ?
thanks in advance
